Boswellia is a shrub or undersized tree whose value lies in the fact that an odorous resin can be obtained from it. When this resin is mined, the bark of the plant is pruned and it releases an aromatic resinous substance that hardens in the air – this is incense. When heated, it softens, emitting a pronounced spicy, balsamic, slightly sweet aroma.
