Borage Oil in History

Borage herb was popular in Ancient Greece, as it was believed to be able to increase human vitality. Ancient Roman warriors believed in its healing power, they took dry grass with them on campaigns. And medieval knights went out onto the battlefield only after drinking traditional healing borage tea. Moreover, their ladies also loved borage – as a talisman, they decorated their gentlemen’s armor with the plant’s flowers.

Borage, an annual herb native to Syria, thrives across Southern Europe, North Africa, Asia, and South America. The plant can reach 1 meter in height, the leaves are elliptical, the flowers are bright blue with a pink tint, all are partially covered with favorable hairs. Recognized for its cucumber-like scent, it produces nutrient-rich oil and serves as a valuable honey plant, attracting bees even in unfavorable weather.

Borage Seed Oil is a natural source of Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), which belongs to the Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids that support cellular health. This gives it exceptional anti-inflammatory properties for a variety of skin problems. Whether you struggle with persistent acne, eczema, or other pesky skin conditions, GLA is a gentle yet powerful ally.

The best sources of GLA are from the oils of Evening Primrose, Borage and Blackcurrant seeds. However, Borage Oil contains about 23% GLA, making it one of the richest sources of this substance (to compare, Evening Primrose Oil contains only 9%).

Borage Oil Applications
Aroma logo markerBorage Oil can be applied both externally and internally.
However, internal consumption, especially in excess, can cause side effects, including liver damage. To ensure your well-being, it is recommended to use Borage Oil only for external treatments with skin care products, where its benefits are most effective.

Due to its ability to regenerate and restore cells, Borage Oil strengthens the epidermal barrier, increases the skin’s moisture-holding capacity, elasticity, firmness, and protective properties, and reduces inflammation and irritation.

Borage Oil has long been known for its healing and rejuvenating properties:

Several useful recipes for moisturizing and restoring the epidermis:

  • to smooth out wrinkles: apply a mixture of oil and corn starch to the skin of the face for 20 minutes, then rinse with water with the addition of lemon juice, dry the skin, lubricate with rapeseed oil and do a light massage;
  • apply in pure form or in combination with other oils to the skin of the face, hands, décolleté and other parts of the body;
  • bath (water temperature +37 °C) is prepared with the addition of 5 drops of Borage Oil; applications and masks are made by applying a napkin soaked in this product or a mixture with other oils for 15-30 minutes, the procedures are performed daily 1-2 times a day;
  • to treat seborrhea and dandruff, the oil is applied to the hair – it is easily absorbed, penetrating the scalp, has a positive effect on the metabolism of hair follicles, cleanses pores from dust and sebum, helps improve blood circulation, strengthens the roots.

Borage Oil is widely used in cellulite treatments, as it aids in eliminating toxins that accumulate within the fat layer. To enhance its effects, it is often added to creams designed to reduce stretch marks. A blend of Borage, wheat germ, and Rosehip Oil creates a powerful solution for daily cosmetic applications. Regular application helps skin elasticity in targeted areas, refines texture, and improves overall tone.

What are Carrier Oils used for?
